SportsTrack combines the power of GPS with the efficiency of GPRS mobile phone data communications. Simply put: your SportsTrack unit acquires GPS location data, stores it into memory before retransmitting that same data in real time via the GPRS mobile phone network – effectively a data call rather than a voice call - to the SportsTrack web servers. The data is then displayed in real time on Google Earth or Microsoft Virtual Earth through a password protected login to your own section of the SportsTrack website. Your exact location is refreshed to the website every 20, 60 or 120 seconds. You then have the comfort of knowing that should anything happen, your exact location and time are stored on the SportsTrack web site. This same data is also available through a small application running on most mobile phones and it is therefore not necessary that a person be beside a computer to know where you are. Friends and family can also find out where you are in real time by logging onto your part of the website so that they can share your adventures or just monitor your safety.
Additionally, environmental data including temperature, altitude and speed are recorded alongside every position plotted onto Google Earth. By integrating with Google Earth™, you have many options on how you view the information: you can change the plane on which you view the route, you can remove or add layers of surrounding information – depending on how much detail you want, etc. You can also have a snap-shot of the map sent to you – or to any email address that you choose –
to save for later use or historical reference. This information can be mailed to you as a data file in KML or as a picture file.
Furthermore, SportsTrack ’s integrated GSM technology allows you to receive calls and SMS’s – although you cannot make calls or send SMS’s from the unit. An incoming call from your designated emergency contact will automatically be answered by the unit and you will be able to have a normal conversation.
Finally, Having SportsTrack assures your personal security with E-Mode, and if something happens outside GSM coverage, rescuers know your last position. The unit will continue to gather information, even if there is no GSM coverage. Once coverage is re-established, all the information will be sent and your position will be known. So, if you’ve moved whilst there was no coverage, your position will be updated, and if you have not, then an observer would know your exact last position.
